Winifred Kelly began a professional
marketing career in 1980 at The Howard/Marlboro Group in New York.
As Director of Corporate Communications, she brought the company’s
superior talent to international recognition through public and industry
awareness campaigns. She was
honored to provide support on the 1984 Olympic promotions for Anheuser-Busch
and General Electric. This
experience began a fascination with sports sponsorships, especially in the
horse sports. A horsewoman since the age of four, she
spent her junior years competing, owned and managed a working farm in Ocala,
Florida, gained her judging credentials and license in 1982 and continues to
judge and steward horse shows today.
In 1985, with
the encouragement of the management of The Howard/Marlboro Group, she began her
own company, Equisport Marketing, Inc., concentrating on bringing corporate
sponsorship to equestrian sport.
During these fifteen years, her work with Land Rover set the stage for
Land Rover’s national sponsorship program encompassing up to 42 events per
year. In addition, Equisport’s
client list included Volvo Cars of North America, Hendrick Auto Group, The
Smithsonian Institute, Save the Children and many more.
With marriage and the birth of her son, Hunter, in 1996, Win re-invented
a career which allowed her to be a mother first, yet tend to her sponsorship
clients and home rentals.
A nine year resident of Summer Haven, Win has demonstrated a
personal and professional dedication to the preservation of the island.
Working with the Nature Conservancy, an effort is now being made to
purchase and ‘hold green’ the remaining lots on Summer Haven.
An informal neighborhood association has been formed.
“From the moment I saw Summer Haven, I knew I would spend the rest of my
life there. I will keep our Summer
Haven home, so that our child will have a home to hand to his family and so on
through the generations. It is my
endeavor to keep Summer Haven a haven for her residents, green, beautiful,
uncrowded.”
Under her
care, her home Tara Haven has flourished through an upscale rental marketing
program. Her second Summer
Haven home, Villa Villekula, the purchase of which was fostered by rental
proceeds, had been rehabilitated and rented for six months before the paint had
dried. Now in her second
year as a rental property, Villa is developing the following she deserves and
is on her way to being self-supporting.
In 2003, The
Beach Cottage Company was born. “With four years of rental
history for Tara Haven, and well under way into Villa’s second year, this was a
natural extension for me. I know
how gratifying and profitable owning vacation homes can be for a family.
Now, The Beach Cottages delivers the answers to personal and
professional questions: the
ability to present beautiful homes for discerning renters, to communicate with
owners and deliver expected results, the joy in working from home to properly
raise my child, and the ability to market the homes in our portfolio in a
disciplined and effective manner. The
Beach Cottages are a delightful labor of love.”
